How could I get in contact with teaching staff in my Liasion Area?
The first point of contact is usually your department's Teaching Centre Manager (TCM) or Administrative Officer. They will be able to provide you with a list of staff contact details. Another option is to browse through the Institute Telephone Directory.
Be sure to check with your department for new staff at the beginning of the semester. You can also check the list for new and leaving teachers in your area in the monthly Holmesglen Newsletter.
What resources am I responsible for?
You will be responsible for monograph and periodical collections in your liaison area. This includes ordering, maintaining, weeding and updating with new editions.
How do I find the budget for my liaison area?
You can check on your funds availability on our library management system, SIRSI. As part of the Learning Commons Induction Program, all new Liaison Librarians will have the opportunity to be trained on SIRSI.
How do I know of what stage my order is at?
You can contact Technical Services who will give you the required information.
A teacher has requested an inter-library loan from another institution. Who should I contact to organise this?
When a request is received, the Liaison Librarian will need to verify that item is not held by us before checking external sources. Requests and details of availability are then passed onto the Inter-Library Loans Officer at Moorabbin.

How do I book an Information Literacy session?
When a request is made for an Information Literacy Session, record all relevant details on the booking form available at the Information Desk. It is essential to that a brief record is placed in the Groupwise calendar for rostering purposes.
It is recommended that you book your sessions 3 days in advance.

How do I find out what resources are needed for my liaison area?
You can get a course outline from your department and the syllabus from your teachers to identify the subjects belonging to your liasion area. Always check existing collection to ensure that it is current and liaise constantly with your teachers to identify and order items where necessary.
