Learning Commons patrons are required to comply with the requirements
of the copyright
act. The copyright act aims to protect the rights of
authors and creators of original works, to ensure they are
rewarded for their efforts, and have exclusive rights over
when and where their works are used.
Broadly
speaking students can print, photocopy, or download onto
disk for educational purposes up to one chapter or 10% of
a book, (whichever is the greater), and the whole or part
of an article in any issue of a periodical or magazine or
the whole or part of two or more articles in an issue of
a periodical or magazine, provided those articles
relate to the same subject matter. Further details on copyright
restrictions are displayed adjacent to the photocopiers,
and computers and can be obtained from copyright publications
within the Learning Commons' collection at Call No. 346.940482
COP.
Staff
are referred to the "Copyright Guide" available
from the Holmesglen Media Services Unit for more details.
Within
the restrictions of the copyright
act, information may be printed out, down-loaded onto
disk or photocopied.
